Borrell reacted with horror to Israeli attack on Gaza school

EU High Representative Josep Borrell expressed horror at Israel's attack on a school building in Gaza, with Palestinian reports indicating dozens of deaths. "At least ten schools have been targeted in recent weeks. There is no justification for these massacres," Borrell wrote on X. "We are appalled by the horrific total number of casualties." The targeted building served as a shelter for displaced persons and, according to Israeli claims, also as a Hamas command center and hideout.

More than 40,000 Palestinians have been killed since the start of the war in October, Borrell wrote. A ceasefire is the only way to end the killing of civilians and ensure the release of hostages, he warned. In the latest Israeli attack, Palestinian reports indicate around 100 deaths, with varying figures given.

The Gaza war was triggered by the unprecedented massacre of over 1,200 people by Hamas and other group terrorists in Israel last October. According to the Hamas-controlled health authority, more than 39,600 people have been killed in the Gaza Strip since the war began. The figure does not distinguish between civilians and fighters and cannot be independently verified.

The attack on the school building in Gaza, resulting in numerous deaths, further emphasizes the need for a peaceful resolution. Despite Israeli claims of the school serving as a Hamas command center, it serves as a grim reminder of the importance of protecting civilian institutions, especially schools.
