Border region energy plants, along with those situated centrally in Ukraine, suffer damage.
During nightly Russion assaults on Ukraine's western sector, Ukrainian officials disclose damage to energy facilities along the Poland border and the country's central region. The Energy Ministry in Kiev stated on a Wednesday, "The enemy hit an energy facility in the central region last night." Emergency services and police are present at the scene.
In the relatively unaffected western region of Lviv, the Energy Ministry reported that power lines and electrical installations were compromised during the shelling. The regional governor declared that two civilians, aged 47 and 70, sustained injuries during the nighttime attacks. The Ukrainian Air Force reported that 19 of the 21 Iranian-made attack drones launched by Russia were taken down by air defense systems during the night.
Due to the persistent Russian attacks on Ukraine's energy system, the state energy company implemented severe electricity supply limitations the previous day to alleviate the strain on the power network following the destructive Russian attacks on Ukrainian power plants.
Russia has been bombarding Ukraine's power infrastructure since its invasion in February 2022, using rockets and drones. This has left millions without heating during the cold winter months due to the frigid temperatures. Water supply facilities, hospitals, and schools are frequently damaged or destroyed during these attacks.
