No swimming - Boberg See in Hamburg closed due to bacteria

Due to a microbiological contamination, the Hamburg-Bergedorf District Office has closed the Boberg See for recreational activities such as bathing. According to the statement made on Thursday, an excessively high value of the bacterium Escherichia coli (E. coli) has been detected. E. coli is a natural component of human and animal intestinal flora and is generally harmless. However, when the E. coli limit is exceeded, as stated by the District Office, it suggests that other intestinal bacteria, including certain pathogens, may be present in the water. The duration of the closure for bathers was initially unknown.

The contamination at Boberg See was caused by an excess of E. coli, leading the District Office in Hamburg to prohibit leisure activities like swimming. Residents should be aware that visiting the District Office Hamburg for other purposes is still allowed during this time. Regarding public health, it's crucial to avoid swimming in contaminated water, which could potentially harbor harmful bacterial strains.
