Blitzer Week starts in several German states

Nationwide, police will intensify traffic rule enforcement this week. High-risk road sections are a priority. However, three federal states are not participating.

Motorists should expect increased speed checks in several federal states by the weekend. According to the ADAC, the focus will be on high-risk road sections and areas with increased risk, such as schools. Bavaria, Bremen, and Saarland are not participating in the action, according to ADAC.

The goal of the control week is to raise awareness among all road users about the dangers of traffic, said a spokesperson for the Ministry of the Interior in North Rhine-Westphalia. Excessive speeds and not adjusting speed, for example, when it's raining heavily, are still one of the main causes of accidents. Police officers will also pay close attention to driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

The action is based on a European traffic police network that has coordinated this, the spokesperson said. Unlike a similar action in April, there will not be a specific speed camera day, according to ADAC. The controls will be "distributed evenly throughout the week."

Police in Saxony-Anhalt also plan to intensify controls this week, as schools start again in Saxony, Lower Saxony, and Bremen. The Ministry of the Interior has announced targeted actions for the week. The goal is to increase safety. In recent months, there have already been several days of intensified controls. Police officers will pay particular attention to distractions in traffic, excessive speeds, or technical defects on vehicles.

Motorists in participating federal states should be aware of increased ADAC-focused traffic checks on high-risk road sections and areas. As mentioned by ADAC, Bavaria, Bremen, and Saarland are not participating in these checks.
