- "Blitz-Marathon" in several German Länder
Drivers need to brace themselves for intensified speed checks in several federal states by the weekend. According to the ADAC, from Monday to Sunday, particular focus will be on accident-prone stretches and areas with heightened risk, such as schools. Bavaria, Bremen, and Saarland will not be participating in this action, according to ADAC.
The goal of this control week is to raise awareness among all road users about the dangers of road traffic, a spokesperson for the Ministry of the Interior in North Rhine-Westphalia said. Excessive speeds and not adjusting speed, for instance when it's raining heavily, remain one of the main causes of accidents. Police officers will also be keeping a close eye on the issue of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
This action is reportedly linked to a European traffic police network that has coordinated efforts.
No specific speed camera day planned
Unlike a similar action in April, there will not be a specific speed camera day this time, according to the ADAC. The checks will be "distributed evenly throughout the entire week".
Police in Saxony-Anhalt also plan to intensify checks, where, like in Lower Saxony, Saxony, and Bremen, schools start again on Monday. The Ministry of the Interior has announced focus actions for this week, aiming to increase safety. In recent months, there have already been several days of intensified checks. Police officers will pay particular attention to distractions in traffic, excessive speeds, or technical defects on vehicles.
The Ministry of Interior in North Rhine-Westphalia stated that Police officers will closely monitor driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs during the intensified speed checks. Despite Bavaria, Bremen, and Saarland not participating in this action, Police in Saxony-Anhalt also plan to intensify their checks, focusing on distractions, excessive speeds, and technical defects.
