Formalities today as we announce the passing of former Austrian Chancellor Brigitte Bierlein at the age of 74. The headquarters in Vienna confirmed the news on Monday. In a heartfelt note on social media, Chancellor Karl Nehammer expressed his gratitude in saying, "She stepped up in a tough time out of love for the republic and her home, Austria. We will forever be grateful!" After the downfall of Sebastian Kurz's administration, Bierlein officially assumed the position of chancellor in 2019, becoming the first female head of the Austrian government. Her transitional government operated for around seven months.
