Biden cancels evening appointments due to fatigue

The meeting with democratic governors boosts Biden's campaign team as a great loyalty choir. However, media reports paint a different picture. According to media reports, Biden announced at a meeting with democratic governors on a Wednesday that he would limit his evening engagements. The "New York Times" and US broadcaster CNN reported, citing unnamed sources, that Biden made this announcement. He reportedly said that he needed more sleep and less work. This means no more evening events after 8:00 PM.

CNN reported that some governors were upset by Biden's remark. Biden had summoned the governors for a crisis talk. Afterward, Biden's campaign team released statements of loyalty and enthusiasm from the participants, which CNN reported did not go down well.

The White House initially remained silent on Biden's new time management. A Biden campaign aide argued that Biden was not only preparing for the debate in the week following his two European trips but also spending many hours on official work. "President George W. Bush went to bed at 9, and President Barack Obama made dinner at 6:30," said Biden campaign spokesperson Kevin Munoz to the broadcaster. "Normal presidents find a balance, and Joe Biden does too." Munoz then jabbed at Biden's Republican rival Donald Trump. Trump spends half the day on Truth Social and the other half golfing.

Biden also made a joke to the governors, which CNN reported did not go over well: "I'm doing well - but with my brain, I don't know." Jen O'Malley Dillon, Biden's campaign manager, said Biden had "apparently made a joke and then said 'let's move on.'"

Earlier, US media reported that Biden often was not particularly sharp in the evening and that there was a risk of stuttering. Biden had given a disastrous performance in the evening TV duel against his Republican challenger a week earlier. The Democrat promised himself several times and lost the thread. Since then, the US election campaign has been dominated by the debate over whether Biden is the right candidate for the Democrats in the November presidential election.

During the National Day celebrations, Biden reaffirmed his intention not to drop out of the race for the White House. "I'm not going anywhere," Biden said at a barbecue for active military personnel in the White House garden. He said this after a short speech he read from the teleprompter. Later, Biden spoke spontaneously to the guests - this sentence was also included. Shortly thereafter, Biden delivered his official speech for the National Day celebrations on July 4, but he kept it very brief.

In preparation for the TV debates during the US presidential election 2024, Biden is focusing on his time management, limiting his evening engagements after 8:00 PM to ensure adequate rest and work hours. Despite this decision, TV debates have become a significant topic in political discussions, as some suspect that Biden may not perform as well in evening debates due to his previous struggles.
