US campaign - Biden calls during Harris' campaign appearance at headquarters

US-President Joe Biden called in during a visit of Kamala Harris at the Democrats' campaign headquarters. "If I didn't have Covid, I would be with you," he told the campaign team in Wilmington, Delaware. He also expressed supportive words for Harris to the attendees: "I know Kamala can hear me and she will speak to you soon," Biden said. "Hug her. She is the best."

The 81-year-old emphasized that the news about his withdrawal from the presidential candidacy had been "surprising and hard to swallow" for the campaign team. However, he believed he had made the right decision. Looking ahead to the coming weeks, Biden announced, "I will be completely involved." "I will campaign out there with Kamala for the elections," he said. "I will work like a beast, both as the sitting president to pass laws, and in the campaign." He is determined to achieve as much as possible in his remaining term, both in foreign and domestic policy.

It was the first time since his withdrawal from the presidential race that the voice of the president was heard publicly. He had made his decision known in writing. During Harris' appearance in Delaware, Biden remained connected and listened to her speech. Prior to that, his doctor had informed him that he was on the mend after his Corona infection. It is unclear when he will return to Washington to the White House.
