Biden announces military aid for Ukraine totalling $225 million.

President Joe Biden just revealed a new $225 million (€207 million) military aid package for Ukraine. He mentioned this to Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy personally, during a meeting in Paris. Both leaders are currently on extended trips to France.

As per the US Defense Department details, the new funding will provide rockets for Hawk air defense systems, ammunition for HIMARS multiple rocket launchers, Stinger anti-aircraft missiles, and artillery ammunition with calibers of 155 and 105 millimeters. A major focus for the US right now is bolstering Ukraine's air defense and sending the nation the necessary ammo, considering a brief pause in these types of deliveries.

The US is deemed as Ukraine's most critical ally and the leading provider of weaponry in its ongoing fight against Russia. Since the beginning of the war, the US has granted military aid to Ukraine amounting to more than $51 billion, according to the Pentagon. However, these arms shipments from the US were momentarily suspended at the start of 2020 due to political constraints in the US itself.
