In Netanyahu's planned speech before the parliament, there will be topics about the ongoing war in Gaza, which has been raging for over nine months.

Biden and Trump vie for Netanyahu

Joe Biden and Netanyahu's Meeting During the US Trip of the Israeli Prime Minister was Unclear Due to Biden's Corona Infection, but a Date has been Set Now.

Both US President Joe Biden and the Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump plan to meet separately with Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Netanyahu is currently on a US trip and is scheduled to give a speech before the Congress in Washington on Wednesday. The relationship between Biden and Netanyahu was tense most recently due to the Gaza War.

Trump announced the meeting with Israel's leaders on his platform Truth Social. Initially, there was confusion about the day. In the first post, which Trump later deleted, he wrote about Wednesday. In another post, Trump then mentioned Thursday. At Netanyahu's request, the meeting was rescheduled to Friday, Trump later wrote.

Trump wrote on Truth Social that he was looking forward to welcoming Netanyahu to his estate Mar-a-Lago in Florida. During his first term, there was peace and stability in the Middle East, the 78-year-old Republican added. "Deadly wars and violent conflicts" must come to an end, Trump also wrote with a look towards the Russian invasion in Ukraine. "Kamala Harris is in no way capable of stopping this," the Republican noted with a look towards the possible replacement candidate for Biden in the race for the White House.

Shortly after Trump's announcement, the White House released a new schedule for Biden, which noted the meeting on Thursday. It was uncertain for a long time whether the two leaders would actually meet due to Biden's Coronavirus infection. Initially, a meeting at the White House on Tuesday was planned. Biden only returned to Washington today after isolating himself at his private home in the US state of Delaware due to his Covid-19 infection.

Netanyahu expressed cautiously optimistic remarks

The topic of Netanyahu's planned speech before the parliament is expected to include the ongoing conflict in Gaza, which has been raging for over nine months. Relatives of Israeli hostages accompanying Netanyahu on his US trip are also hoping for a possible announcement from the Prime Minister regarding a ceasefire and the release of hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners.

At a meeting with the relatives, Netanyahu expressed cautiously optimistic remarks. In the restricted coastal strip, around 120 hostages are still believed to be missing, many of whom may no longer be alive. Hope for a deal in international mediation efforts has repeatedly been dashed.

Netanyahu's visit to Washington is taking place against the backdrop of the political turmoil in the US following Biden's withdrawal from the presidential race. Trump, who is in the heat of the election campaign, creates headlines with the reception of high-ranking government guests. Recently, the Republican received Hungary's Prime Minister Viktor Orban at his estate.
