Best water quality in almost all swimming pools

In only a few waters do algae somewhat dampen the joy. In two lakes, however, the season was not even opened.

summer - Best water quality in almost all swimming pools

In all Hessian lakes, the water quality leaves nothing to be desired. "There are no real problems. One can bathe safely if one observes the safety regulations and the respective conditions," said an expert from the Hessian State Office for Nature, Environment and Geology (HLNUG) in Wiesbaden.

In the Wissmarer See in middle Hessian Wettenberg and in the Osthessian Seepark Kirchheim, cyanobacteria were detected, but bathing is still permitted. This also applies to the Grube Prinz von Hessen in the forest between Darmstadt and Dieburg, according to the HLNUG-Internet site, "a health risk due to algal bloom is not excluded."

Pay attention to signs of blue-green algae

According to an earlier statement from the authorities, 57 of the total 61 Hessian lakes have excellent water quality, the remaining 4 were rated "good" by the EU. However, there may be restrictions on use, such as a strong occurrence of blue-green algae. This is monitored during the season by the responsible health authorities. "If one stands in the water up to the waist and cannot see their feet, one should rather abstain from bathing," according to the HLNUG tip. Green-blue layers on the water or an unpleasant odor can also be warning signs.

Two lakes were not released for bathing this summer, including the Rodenbach Strandbad near Hanau. The municipality justified this with the "financially strained budget." In the Nidda-Stausee in Schotten, there is no bathing this summer, the reason was not given on the website.

The German term 'Umwelt' encompasses the importance of maintaining the quality of our natural environments, including lakes. This is evident in Hesse, where only two lakes had restrictions on bathing due to water quality concerns this summer.

Even in lakes with detected cyanobacteria, such as Wissmarer See and Osthessian Seepark Kirchheim, bathing is permitted, provided safety regulations and conditions are observed. It's crucial to stay vigilant, as a health risk due to algal bloom cannot be entirely ruled out in some areas, like the Grube Prinz von Hessen.

The process of monitoring water quality and potential risks, such as blue-green algae, is an ongoing task in Hesse throughout the summer months, ensuring leisure activities can be enjoyed safely.
