Berlin Fashion Week started

The Berlin Fashion Week has started its new round with the first shows featuring Ukrainian designer Mitya Hontarenko and his Streetwear brand PLNGNS. The label showcases recycled clothing such as jackets or tops made from patterns of old sneakers. According to their own statements, they disassemble, for example, worn-out sneakers and create new pieces from them.

A former Ukrainian soldier, who was injured in the Russian offensive war, walked the runway with a leg prosthesis. At the end, he displayed a banner with the inscription "Russia is a terrorist state" ("Russland ist ein terroristischer Staat").

Several designers and designers will still present their designs until Thursday, including established fashion designers like Kilian Kerner and emerging talents. The guest list includes US actress Kelly Rutherford ("Gossip Girl") and her British colleague Jessica Madsen ("Bridgerton"). They are expected at the runway show of Marc Cain in Potsdam on Tuesday evening. The Berlin Fashion Week takes place twice a year, the last time being in February 2024.

The upcoming fashion shows at Berlin Fashion Week are set to continue until Thursday, showcasing designs from esteemed designers like Kilian Kerner and emerging talents. The Week is a biannual event, with the last edition taking place in February 2024.

Despite the ongoing shows, the impact of Ukrainian fashion is already being felt, as was evident in the first week with Mitya Hontarenko's Streetwear brand PLNGNS, highlighting fashion made from recycled materials like jackets and tops from old sneaker patterns.
