Berlin city administrator advocates for ankle restraints following knife assaults

Over the span of a few short days, Berlin witnesses three gruesome incidents involving women being stabbed with knives, with two resulting in fatalities. Berlin's Minister of Justice, Felor Badenberg, from the CDU party, has once again voiced her concerns, stating, "Enough is enough with these brutal attacks against women by men. This is nothing short of pure misogyny." She urgently requests Justice Minister Buschmann to include the ankle monitor in the Violence Protection Act.

"Simultaneously, we are investigating at a state level, considering necessary legal amendments and preventative measures," said Badenberg. "One fact remains unchallenged: These bloody incidents cannot and should not persist."

Justice Minister Marco Buschmann recently expressed his stance in an interview, viewing electronic ankle monitors as an effective tool against domestic violence and is open to employing them. These devices transmit the location and, should someone breach the victim's apartment under a restraining and contact order, the police are immediately notified.

A 36-year-old woman survives knife attack

In another shocking incident in Berlin, a 36-year-old woman was viciously attacked with a knife on a Wednesday, while her 28-year-old counterpart fell victim on a Friday. In both cases, the perpetrators are suspected to be males. The suspected attacker of the 36-year-old is reportedly her ex-husband, under suspicion of femicide, which is the term for women being killed solely based on their gender.

On a Friday, a 38-year-old woman in Berlin was assaulted by a man, who choked her and slashed her with a kitchen knife. Luckily, the police intervened just in time and apprehended the 32-year-old suspect. The woman was immediately rushed to the hospital.

Family Minister's Government Initiative

Green Party's Federal Minister for Family Affairs, Lisa Paus, is equally determined to safeguard those affected by violence. "Our country is grappling with an alarming issue of violence against women," she stated. "This has to be put to an end."

"We require not just a security package against knife-wielding terrorist attackers, but also measures to prevent and shield women from violence," said Paus.

In light of this, she is planning to introduce a Violence Assistance Act, designed to secure protection for all victims of violence. "This will necessitate financial investment, enabling us to support the states in establishing more prevention and protection centres for women," noted Paus. "Currently, there are far too few such facilities. Two femicides in Berlin within a week, equates to a woman being slain every other day in Germany by her partner or ex-partner. This anger and frustration is hard to contain."

"Given the rising number of incidents involving murder and manslaughter towards women in Berlin, the city's Minister of Justice, Felor Badenberg, is advocating for the inclusion of ankle monitors in the Violence Protection Act."

"In response to the escalating violence against women, Green Party's Federal Minister for Family Affairs, Lisa Paus, is proposing a Violence Assistance Act to increase funding for prevention and protection centers, aiming to reduce the alarming rate of femicides in Germany."
