Beijing accuses NATO countries of defamation

In the face of conflicts in the Indo-Pacific region, NATO countries plan to focus more on China during their summit. However, China holds the alliance responsible for the tensions. The NATO should correct its wrong image of the People's Republic of China.

Before the start of its summit in Washington, China criticized NATO for its actions in the Asia-Pacific region and demanded that the defense alliance reconsider its stance. The spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Lin Jian, in Beijing, stated that China opposes the negative remarks of NATO and refuses to let the alliance use China as a pretext to advance into the Asia-Pacific region and cause tensions there. China is a builder of world peace and contributes to global development, Lin added. The NATO was accused by Lin of extending its power beyond its borders and provoking confrontations.

At the summit in the US capital, the heads of state and government of the 32 member states will discuss the expansion and strengthening of deterrence and defense, as well as further support for Ukraine. China maintains a neutral stance in the conflict, but strengthens Russia as its most important ally in the background. NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg accused China in June of trying to create the impression of staying out of the conflict to avoid sanctions and keep trade flowing.

"But the reality is that China is fueling the largest armed conflict in Europe since World War II," Stoltenberg said. At the same time, China wants to maintain good relations with the West. "But Beijing cannot have both," Stoltenberg said. Eventually, the allies will demand costs if China does not change course.

  1. Despite NATO's planned focus on China during their summit due to regional conflicts, Xi Jinping, the Chinese leader, has publicly criticized NATO's actions in the Asia-Pacific region.
  2. The Beijing-based spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Lin Jian, has asserted that China opposes NATO's negative remarks and refuses to allow the alliance to use China as a pretext for advancing into the Asia-Pacific region, causing tensions there.
  3. In the midst of NATO's discussions on expanding and strengthening deterrence and defense, and further supporting Ukraine, Xi Jinping, as China's leader, maintains a neutral stance in the conflict but provides significant support to Russia, one of China's most important allies.
