Leipzig - Beiersdorf invests 200 Million Euro in Logistics Center

The consumer goods manufacturer Beiersdorf invests over 200 million Euro in a new logistics center in Leipzig. The completion and commissioning are planned for 2027, according to the Hamburg Dax-conglomerate. In total, the modern logistics center will create around 450 new jobs. Beiersdorf is known for brands such as Nivea and Labello.

Second major project in short order

Just in September of last year, the company opened a new production center for around 300 million Euro in northern Leipzig. The two major projects, according to Beiersdorf, are "a clear commitment to the German location". They are together "the largest investment the company has ever made at a single site". The new logistics center on the 12.5 hectare site is intended to function as the central European hub in the future. "Leipzig is ideal for our supply chain network and for the connection of our customers in Central Europe," says Germany CEO Christian Haensch.

Leipzig's future as a logistics hub

Leipzig's mayor Burkhard Jung (SPD) welcomes the commitment to the Leipzig location. "Beiersdorf writes another chapter in its success story at the Leipzig location: the starting shot for a modern and climate-neutral logistics center with several hundred new jobs."

Beiersdorf intends to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30% compared to 2018 by 2025, and by 50% by 2032, according to its own statements. A key building block for reducing emissions is the so-called product transformation. So the cosmetics manufacturer aims to reach its Net-Zero goal by 2045. Photovoltaic modules as well as roof and facade cladding will also contribute to this.

  1. The logistics center, which Beiersdorf is building in Leipzig, will mainly handle consumer goods from brands like Nivea and Labello.
  2. As part of its plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, Beiersdorf will equip the new logistics center in Saxony with photovoltaic modules and energy-efficient materials.
  3. The investment in the logistics center in Leipzig is significant for Beiersdorf's industry, as it aims to make the site its central European hub for cosmetics logistics.
  4. With its expanded presence in Leipzig, Beiersdorf is contributing to the city's growth as a hub for consumer goods and logistics, aligning with its strategy of increasing its activities in the Saxony region.
