The Crisis Services Bavaria conducted approximately 88,100 telephone conversations with people in distress in the year 2023. Bezirkatags-President Franz Loeffler stated, "The increased demand shows how important low-threshold counseling services like crisis services are. Quick and professional help can prevent or even stop the escalation of psychological crises or their transformation into chronic mental health conditions."
The Crisis Services Bavaria are financed and supported by the seven districts in Bavaria and the Free State of Bavaria. The districts are proud to have created an offer that is so well accepted by the people, Loeffler added.
Martin Guth, spokesperson for the Crisis Services Bavaria call centers, added: "Mental health crises push people to the limits of their emotional and physical resilience." In such situations, the crisis services are there. "We listen, sort through thoughts, and discuss what the next steps might be to get out of the crisis." Many people hesitate to call because they think their distress is not significant enough. "I can only say: Every person who feels psychologically overwhelmed is in the right place with us!"
The Federal Health Ministry's considerations to develop a concept for a nationwide crisis service hotline are fundamentally supported by Verbandspraesident Loeffler. However, he emphasized: "The establishment of a nationwide crisis service can only succeed if proven regional structures are built upon and connected to them. It should be avoided at all costs to build redundant structures or dismantle already established and proven structures."
The crisis services are available 365 days a year around the clock. The offer is aimed at all people who are affected by a crisis themselves, as well as family members, loved ones, caregivers, medical and psychotherapeutic professionals, and institutions.
