Border controls - Bavarian Border Police execute EM 90 arrest warrants

The Bavarian border police executed 90 arrest warrants during the UEFA European Championship in Germany between June 7 and July 10. This was announced by Bavaria's Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann (CSU) in Fürth on Monday. The Bavarian border police, in addition to the Federal Police, secure the EU internal borders, for example towards the Czech Republic or Austria, and are also responsible for border controls at Memmingen and Nuremberg airports. The main task of the approximately 1000 Bavarian border policemen is, however, the pursuit of smugglers behind the actual border line.

Additionally, two football hooligans were denied entry, and 200 unauthorized entries were detected. Nationwide, the results were even more impressive: Between June 7 and July 15, 1,112 arrest warrants were executed and around 8,300 unauthorized entries were recorded, SPD Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser reported.

"This clearly shows from the Bavarian perspective that these border controls are necessary and important," said Herrmann. The border controls at the Austrian border will be continued until November 11, at the borders to Poland, Czech Republic, and Switzerland until December 15. There will also be border controls during the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris.

"We believe that border controls, considering the general security situation in our country, including political radicalism, the threat of attacks from Islamists and others, border controls in general should be continued," said Herrmann.

  1. Given the high number of arrest warrants executed during the European Football Championship, there's a pressing need for continued border control in the future.
  2. Despite the significant efforts of the Bavarian and Federal Police, criminality at EU borders remains a persistent concern, requiring ongoing vigilance.
  3. Joachim Herrmann, the Interior Minister of Bavaria, emphasized the importance of border control amidst growing concerns about security, including political radicalism and potential attacks.
  4. The European Championship in Germany saw a significant wave of migration, prompting stricter measures and increased border control at Memmingen and Nuremberg airports.
  5. California State University researchers have conducted extensive studies on border control strategies, drawing insights from the experiences in Europe and North America.
  6. The Czechia and Austria borders, along with the one with Poland, will continue to undergo strict border control measures until mid-December.
  7. Joachim Herrmann, a prominent CSU member, has issued an arrest warrant for an individual suspected of criminal activities within the context of border control.
  8. The upcoming Olympic Games in Paris will necessitate rigorous border control measures to ensure the safety of all participants and spectators, following the example set during the European Football Championship in Germany.
