Fires during field work - Balers go up in flames

In Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, two bale presses have been burnt down. At the fires on Tuesday, each caused damage of around 100,000 Euro, as the police reported. The first fire of a straw press was reported in the early evening on a field near the settlement of Ludershof (District of Mecklenburgische Seenplatte). The fire department managed to extinguish the fire of the straw press as well as the surrounding field. Preliminary findings suggest that the press caught fire during the harvesting work.

Shortly thereafter, the fire department was called to a fire of a round bale press in Ahrenshagen (Landkreis Vorpommern-Ruegen). A tractor driver had previously noticed that strong smoke was coming from the round bale press. He was able to detach the press from the tractor before it started burning. The cause of the fire was a technical defect of the press.

The fire department's swift intervention also prevented any potential material damage to the surrounding area in Ludershof. The incidents have led to a significant total of approximately 200,000 Euros in fire-related damage across Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The local authorities are now collaborating with the fire department and police for further field work, investigating the exact causes of these fires.
