Make-up - Baerbock: "Otherwise you look like a gravedigger"
Minister of Foreign Affairs Annalena Baerbock (Greens) defended the expenses of her ministry for a makeup artist against criticism. When appearing on television, one must be made up due to the strong spotlight, Baerbock stated at the "Politics on Site" event by the Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland (RND), NDR, and "Hannoverscher Allgemeine Zeitung". "Otherwise one looks like a corpse, because one is completely grey."
During her numerous travels, there isn't time to find a makeup artist every time on site – especially abroad. "That's the way it goes - the same applies to me, but it is often a popular topic for women." Since she travels a lot and is often on the road at night, this activity would be accordingly remunerated, Baerbock explained. The Foreign Office adheres to the legal regulations in this regard.
According to earlier statements from the ministry, the costs for Baerbock's accompaniment by a makeup artist for photo and TV appointments in Germany and abroad in 2022 amounted to 136,500 Euro.
