Ax-wielding attacker targets pregnant women and babies

In Switzerland, a man armed with a machete randomly attacks people in his neighborhood. Five people are injured, among them a pregnant woman and a three-month-old baby.

A pregnant woman, a baby, and three other people were injured in a machete attack in the Swiss city of St. Gallen. According to the police, the suspect is said to be a 34-year-old man who was previously known to be psychologically disturbed.

The police stated that the man first attacked the pregnant woman with a machete in his apartment on Thursday evening. Her father came to her aid and was also attacked and seriously injured. Other residents of the building became aware of the incident and followed the suspect outside. There, he injured a second woman, her three-month-old baby, and a neighbor, who was able to apprehend the 34-year-old.

All the victims were taken to the hospital and underwent surgery. No one was in danger of life, the police reported. In the suspect's apartment, gas and a spilled flammable liquid were found. Due to the explosion risk, the house was evacuated. The motives for the crime are still unclear. The St. Gallen Public Prosecutor's Office assumes that the suspect randomly selected his victims.

The suspect's violent actions against innocent civilians in Switzerland have drawn international concern. The police are investigating if this incident is an isolated case of criminality or part of a larger pattern.
