For decades, a clandestine gathering of far-right extremists has taken place on a secluded property in the town of Eschede, Lower Saxony. Last week, the authorities conducted an investigation concerning the display of evidently fascist insignia, only to conclude that no legal action is warranted.

At a farm in Eschede, Lower Saxony, a gathering allegedly composed of far-right extremists was held, as reported by the police. A police spokeswoman remarked, "This incident from last weekend has been closed for us." She cited the private nature of the event on the property as the reason for different regulations applying.

Based on police observations, approximately 50 individuals were present at the gathering over the weekend. According to a "taz" newspaper article, extremists from all over Germany had convened for a Solstice celebration. The newspaper published images depicting certain individuals wearing helmets in the nationale colors. They were standing around a fire, illuminated by torches. Allegedly, rituals and symbols reminiscent of the Nazi era were present at the event. The event was organized by the youth faction of the party "Die Heimat," a successor organization to the former NPD. For several years, meetings of far-right radicals have occurred on the farm belonging to "Die Heimat," such as during Solstice celebrations or harvest festivals.

The police confirmed that photographing the event was allowed, happening with their coordination. "This was arranged with our approval," said the police spokeswoman. Photographs were captured by a drone and a crane, according to the photographer. The police were therefore present at the event.

Protesting Against Right-Wing Extremism in Eschede

Later on Saturday afternoon, an estimated 200-250 individuals assembled in Eschede for a rally and demonstration, in response to an invitation from the South Heide Network Against Right-wing Extremism. As a speaker, Margot Käßmann, the former Lutheran Church bishop and EKD Council Chairwoman was featured. The event was peaceful with no major incidents, reported a police spokeswoman. Demonstrations against right-wing extremism frequently attract individuals from various sectors including politics, labor unions, churches, and other organizations. "It is a resounding manifestation that the vast majority of our society unequivocally rejects right-wing extremist ideology," it was noted.
