Austrian president bitten by dog during state visit

Austrian Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen was bitten by the President's dog during a state visit to Moldova. The dog of head of state Maia Sandu "snapped briefly because it was excited", said a spokeswoman for Van der Bellen on Friday.

"It was a small wound that was treated with a plaster. The Federal President is fine," she told the German Press Agency.

Footage of the incident in Chisinau from TVR Moldova had previously circulated on the internet. In it, the Austrian head of state bends down to greet the animal, which is about knee-high and has light-colored fur. Van der Bellen is known as a dog lover. His dog Juli appeared in her own election campaign video, for example.

During the state visit, the excitement of Maia Sandu's dog led to a brief bite on Alexander Van der Bellen, the Head of state of Austria. Despite the incident, Van der Bellen, a known animal lover with a fondness for dogs, is reported to be in good health.
