- Austrian Alps' Arlberg route becomes unrestricted starting from Friday evening.

The renowned Alpine route across the Austrian Arlberg is set to resume 24/7 operations starting from 6 PM on Friday. This announcement came a week after the destructive storm wreaked havoc on the Arlberg highway in Tyrol.

The path connecting Tyrol and Vorarlberg was obstructed by massive erdebewegungen (landslides). A portion of the road succumbed to undergirding erosion and succumbed. As a result, vehicles were only allowed to traverse the route in the evening hours and at night. Construction work was conducted during the daytime. Motorists had to find alternative routes, either via the Tyrolean Lechtal or Bavaria, due to the ongoing renovation of the Arlberg tunnel, which remains unavailable till November.

The Austrian Military at Work

Even though the road has been completely reopened, restoration efforts persist. According to Tyrol's state authorities, several additional weeks will be required to repair the drainage, the road's edges, and safety barriers.

Additionally, repair work is ongoing in the St. Anton am Arlberg ski resort to rectify the damage caused by the landslides. Austrian soldiers are also being dispatched to aid in this endeavor.
