The Landgericht Karlsruhe is set to pronounce its judgment today (10.30 am) in the trial of three men, aged 21, 22, and 30, for a bank machine bombing with a dead man following a car accident during their escape in Wiernsheim near Pforzheim. The 30-year-old alleged driver of the getaway car is believed to have caused the accident that resulted in the death of a 45-year-old innocent man.
The prosecution accuses the three alleged robbers, among other things, of involvement in the bank machine bombing and armed robbery; the 30-year-old, following the death of the 45-year-old man, is also charged with murder. The alleged getaway car driver is said to have driven at high speed through the country on November 11th of the previous year after the robbery. Subsequently, he is believed to have driven as a "ghost driver" on the A6, where the car collided with a truck. The passenger in the truck was severely injured and died several days later.
The 30-year-old defendant, according to the prosecution, took the risk of causing the death of another person with his reckless escape. He is therefore charged not only with murder but also with attempted murder. The three defendants have been in pre-trial detention since November. They all hold Dutch citizenship.
The police found over 41,000 Euros in cash from the bank machine bombing in Wiernsheim and explosives in the getaway car. The damage to the building was approximately 250,000 Euros. In Germany, there are frequent bank machine bombings. Often, the perpetrators come from the Netherlands.
