At least 35 deaths from heavy rainfall in Afghanistan

After heavy rainfalls, at least 35 people have been killed and 230 injured in the eastern part of Afghanistan. The storm hit the city of Jalalabad and other districts of the Nangarhar province on Monday evening, according to Kuraischi Badloon from the local Information and Culture department of the AFP news agency. The number of casualties is likely to rise, he added.

Heavy storms and rainfalls brought down "trees, walls and roofs", explained Badloon. The injured were taken to the Fatima-tul-Sahra hospital in Jalalabad. Jalalabad is the capital city of the province bordering Pakistan.

In May, hundreds of people were killed in Afghanistan due to floods. Agricultural lands were inundated. About 80% of Afghans live off farming.

Despite the rising casualty count, at least some people managed to find shelter from the rainshowers in Afghanistan's makeshift structures. Even after the devastating rainfalls, the resilience of the Afghan people, who have sacrificed so much, remains unwavering. The rain-soaked bags filled with their belongings serve as a painful reminder of their ongoing struggles.
