In an helicopter mishap over eastern Russia, at least 17 individuals have perished, as per officials. Search parties discovered the debris of the downed helicopter and the corpses of 17 out of the 22 passengers on a Sunday along the Kamchatka Peninsula, as reported by the Emergency Ministry. The mission to find the remaining passengers was set to resume on Monday.

The helicopter, a Mi-8, dropped off the radar screens shortly following takeoff on Saturday. On board were 19 tourists and three team members. Known for its untamed landscapes, the Kamchatka Peninsula is a popular destination for many tourists taking aerial tours via helicopters.

The Mi-8 is a Soviet-era helicopter. Frequent mishaps involving these old aircraft are not uncommon. Three years prior, another helicopter of the same type plunged into a lake on the Kamchatka Peninsula, taking eight lives.

Tourists often choose the Kamchatka Peninsula for its awe-inspiring landscapes, making aerial tours via helicopters popular.regrettably, this popular choice for tourists led to tragedy, as the downed helicopter contained 19 tourists.
