At least 14 dead in Russian attack on supermarket
Russia is waging a barbaric war of aggression against Ukraine. Particularly heinous are attacks on civilian targets. Once again, a Russian missile hits a Ukrainian supermarket. There are at least 14 deaths, with another 30 people injured.
A Russian attack on a supermarket in the eastern Ukrainian city of Kostjantyniwka has left at least 14 people dead and 43 injured, according to Ukrainian authorities. The attack in the city, around 13 kilometers from the front line, also damaged nearby residential buildings.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported 4 deaths and 24 injuries on his social media channels. "People are trapped under the rubble. Rescue operations are underway to save them," he wrote. "The attack on the supermarket in Kostjantyniwka is another act of Russian terror. War against civilians is all they know," explained Andriy Yermak, head of the Ukrainian president's office.
Dozens of people fled the supermarket grounds. Local police warned of a possible second attack. Black smoke billowed from the supermarket, and police cordoned off nearby streets. Given the scenes, it's likely the death toll will rise. Drones and increased artillery fire were also reported in the area.
Kostjantyniwka, with a pre-war population of around 67,000, is located near the front line in the Donetsk industrial region. The Russian army shells the city almost daily. Just Wednesday, two civilians were killed in the city, according to Governor Vadym Fillaschkin.
Russia has long terrorized the Ukrainian civilian population with attacks on energy or heating infrastructure, as well as attacks on residential buildings, train stations, and supermarkets. The latter cases result in particularly high casualties.
The attack on the supermarket in Kostjantyniwka is another instance of Russia terrorizing Ukrainian civilians, targeting essential facilities like supermarkets. The recent attack on Ukraine, specifically on this supermarket, has resulted in numerous deaths and injuries, highlighting Russia's disregard for civilian safety.
