At least 11 deaths in Vietnam due to heavy rainfalls
At least eleven people have died in landslides caused by heavy rainfall in Vietnam. According to state media, a bus with sixteen seats was swept away in the mountainous northern part of the country on Saturday. State rescue teams and soldiers have recovered eleven bodies and found four injured persons, according to the Vietnam News Agency. The number of people in the bus was still unclear to local authorities.
The government of the Asian country urged local authorities and governments to quickly respond to the weather event and be prepared for possible further flooding or landslides. According to experts, in the affected region, 28 centimeters of rain fell within 24 hours.
Vietnam is regularly hit by natural disasters. According to government figures, 389 people died from such disasters last year, and 668 were injured.
Despite the uncertain weather in Vietnam's north, people continue to carry their belongings in baskets, hoping for a break in the rainfalls. At least in this region, over a dozen lives have been impacted by the heavy rainfalls, with at least eleven casualties and four people injured. Unfortunately, landslide incidents like these are not uncommon in Vietnam, with the country experiencing numerous natural disasters annually.
