Gigantic Rainfall from Depression "Anett": Since Friday, an astonishing 450 liters of rain per square meter have poured down on Serec, located on the Czech Republic's border with Poland, thanks to depression "Anett". ntv.de's weather expert, Oliver Scheel, explains that this is the most significant rainfall witnessed in recent days. In Germany, Ruhpolding/Berchtesgadener Land has topped the charts with a total of 320 liters of rain in just four days. In Austria, areas surrounding St. Pölten and Lilienfeld have experienced 364 and 369 liters of rainfall respectively. Vienna recorded 279 liters, but the measurements ceased due to faulty equipment, leaving the exact amounts unknown at present. Katowice in Poland has seen the most rainfall of all, with 200 liters, according to reports.

Regions like Galati, Vaslui, and Iasi have been severely impacted. Approximately 300 individuals needed evacuation, while around 6,000 farmhouses suffered damages due to the floods. Older individuals, including two women aged 96 and 86, made up the majority of the casualties. The highest flood warning level remains active until midday, with remote villages and residents on rooftops being the most affected by the floodwaters.

The Elbe River's maximum water level in Dresden may continue to increase until Wednesday evening, potentially peaking during this period. On the German-Czech border, Schönau's water level is already above the third alarm level (6.13 meters), but the flood control center anticipates a drop in Görlitz's water level.

11:33: Two More Deaths in Austria Due to Floods: Austrian authorities have reported the death of two more individuals due to flooding. A 70-year-old man and an 80-year-old man perished inside their respective homes in regions of Lower Austria. On Sunday, a firefighter was also killed while responding to a basement drainage request. Due to the prolonged rainfall, extraordinary circumstances persist in eastern Austria, leading to the evacuation of more than 1,800 buildings and numerous road closures.

11:01: Flood Emergency Declared in Breslau: Following severe storms and flooding in southwestern Poland, Breslau (Wrocław) in Lower Silesia has declared a flood emergency. Mayor Jacek Sutryk has detailed measures such as round-the-clock dike monitoring, canal control, and dike crossing closures to combat the impending flood wave, which is expected to reach Breslau on Wednesday. Previous predictions claiming that the city would not suffer severe flooding have been revised by the mayor, who emphasizes that the city's current infrastructure is significantly better than it was during the 1997 Oder flood.

10:35: Austrian Governor on Flood Situation: Despite an overnight brief rain break, the flood situation in eastern Austria remains critical, according to Lower Austria Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner. Up to 80 liters of rain per square meter are expected regionally on Monday. Dam stability is a major concern, as authorities warn of high breach risk. A significant portion of public life has come to a pause, with over 200 roads closed, 1,800 buildings evacuated, and many students and kindergarten children staying home. Around 3,500 households are currently without electricity. Damage estimates are not yet available, but the governor assures aid for flood victims. Regions have experienced up to 370 liters of rain per square meter - hundreds of times the average monthly amount.

As per data from the state flood control center, the level in Dresden was at 5.54 meters early in the morning, with predictions of hitting the six-meter mark later in the day, thereby triggering alarm stage three. This stage can lead to the flooding of inhabited areas. The alarm stage three has already been reached at the gauge in Schöna near the Czech border, with a level of 6.09 meters. The same stage is being observed at the Lusatian Neisse near Görlitz on the border with Poland, where the level was at 5.56 meters, just a few centimeters away from alarm stage four. A portion of the federal highway B99 has been closed in Görlitz for safety reasons, as confirmed by a police spokesman. The warning level for stage three here is 4.80 meters.

The first confirmed fatality due to the flooding in the Czech Republic has been reported. Authorities are also searching for at least seven missing individuals. A man drowned in the small river Krasovka in the district of Bruntal in the eastern part of Moravia-Silesia, as confirmed by police president Martin Vondrasek on public radio. This includes three people who were swept away in a car near Jesenik in the Hrubý Jeseník Mountains, with no trace of the vehicle found. Other individuals were swept away into various waterways, including the Otava River. Additionally, a man from a nursing home on the border with Poland is missing. Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala is describing this as a "century flood" - one that statistically occurs once every hundred years in the same location. According to initial police reports, the woman slipped at the edge of the water near the Parkhotel Merkur and fell into the river. "Ultimately, these are climate adaptation costs," says Voss.
