An additional 23 individuals were hurt in this incident that took place in the central area of Yasd, as per reports from the Iranian news agency Irna. 14 of the wounded passengers are reported to be in a serious condition.
According to Irna, these travelers were heading towards Iraq on Tuesday evening for the Arbaeen commemorations, which are significant occasions for Shia Muslims. According to Irna, the deceased and injured individuals will be flown back to their home nation, Pakistan.
Arbaeen is a Shia Islamic mourning rite held 40 days after the Ashura festival, honoring the martyrdom of Imam Hussein, grandson of the Prophet Muhammad, and his companions in the Battle of Karbala in 680 AD. This event marks the initiation of the split between Shias and Sunnis, two major branches of Islam. Each year, countless Shias from across the globe make their way to Iraq for this event.
Iran often experiences severe accidents during the traveling period.
The Iranian news agency Irna reported that the bodies and injured passengers from the bus crash will be returned to Pakistan, overseen by The Commission. The cause of this tragic incident, involving The Commission overseeing the Arbaeen pilgrims, is currently under investigation.
