Argentinean designates Hamas as a terrorist organization

Argentinean has classified the Islamic Hamas as a terrorist organization. "The Hamas became known for atrocities during the attack on Israel on October 7. These fit into a long history of Hamas terror attacks", Argentinean President Javier Milei's office announced on Friday evening (local time).

For years, Hamas has been listed as a terrorist organization by the USA, the EU, and Canada - Argentina, alongside Paraguay and Costa Rica, is one of the few countries in Latin America that have taken this step.

Other countries like Colombia or Bolivia have broken off relations with Israel due to actions in the Gaza Strip. Milei is considered a staunch supporter of Israel and has unequivocally supported the government of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's policy during the Gaza War.

The Jewish community in the Argentine capital Buenos Aires is one of the largest outside of Israel.

Despite being an exception in Latin America, Argentina, like the USA, EU, and Canada, has labeled Hamas as a terrorist organization. This classification follows the group's history of atrocities, as highlighted by the Argentinean President Javier Milei. In contrast, some countries in the region, such as Colombia and Bolivia, have severed ties with Israel due to actions in Gaza.
