Approximately 200 individuals require evacuation in Regensburg.
Amid deteriorating flood conditions, officials in Regensburg have ordered 200 residents to evacuate their homes along Werftstraße. The city cautions that the underground infrastructure is becoming unstable due to the rising water level, posing a threat to the flood protection barriers. As a result, residents in the entire street have been instructed to leave.
In another update from Rosenheim district, efforts to manage the flood situation have shown some progress. The district reports that the situation in southern Rosenheim has slightly improved. However, schools and kindergartens in affected communities will remain closed tomorrow. In the districts of Raubling and Rohrdorf, evacuations have taken place but the number of people affected is still not clear. The authorities had already declared a disaster, and over 1000 emergency responders were deployed to these areas. The German Meteorological Service (DWD) predicts that heavy rain will decrease overnight on Tuesday.
Despite these recent developments, the DWD has lifted all weather warnings across Germany. Recent downpours had led to significant rise in water levels in many streams and rivers, predominantly in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg. Entire communities were inundated, even after dams broke. At least four people have lost their lives in these floods. Parts of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg are still tense.
The water levels at most waterways in the southwest have begun to fall again, according to the flood forecasting center. The only exception is the Danube and the Rhine where water levels are still on the rise in certain areas. However, there are no critical values anticipated that would risk exceeding existing thresholds. At the Danube from the Pegel Hundersingen in the district of Sigmaringen onwards, as well as at Lake Constance, High Rhine, and Upper Rhine, water levels have started to drop. The peak level reached over the weekend at the Pegel Maxau near Karlsruhe (8.29 meters) is not expected to be surpassed. The Neckar trend is also falling.
The Rosenheim district has issued a warning to residents, asking them to stay indoors due to the dangerous flood situation. The district emphasizes the imminent danger to life and limb. On Tuesday, schools and kindergartens in Brannenburg, Raubling, Rohrdorf, Oberaudorf, Kiefersfelden, Nussdorf, Neubeuern, Bad Feilnbach, and Flintsbach will be closed. This decision was made by the State Education Authority Rosenheim, who will inform the affected schools.
In Flintsbach, parts of the Falkenstein Castle have slipped due to heavy rain. The Rosenheim district administration confirms this. Consequently, 50 people living near the castle have been instructed to evacuate.
The Grav Island, Germany's largest camping site in Wesel, North Rhine-Westphalia, must be cleared within 24 hours due to the current flood conditions. This is to ensure the safety of the residents, given the ever-rising water levels in the surrounding rivers and bodies of water. The camping site houses approximately 5000 permanent campers.
In Regensburg, officials have ordered the evacuation of the Werftstraße, an area directly on the Danube. They predict that the softened soil combined with the high groundwater levels could lead to failure of the flood protection barriers and potential flooding of the street. Approximately 200 people residing here are scheduled to be evacuated starting at 21:00.
