Apple's iOS 18 intensifies focus on AI integration.

Upholding data protection remains crucial.

Apple's iOS 18 intensifies focus on AI integration.

In the forthcoming iOS 18, Apple is set to fill their devices with advanced AI functionalities. These features will not only be integrated into iPhones, but also Macs and iPads, which will be updated through their own operating systems, named "Apple Intelligence". Nonetheless, not all of these features will be available right away, like the integration of ChatGPT.

Apple is often underestimated when it comes to new technology, but be assured that their incorporation marks a significant shift. At the kick-off of WWDC, Apple introduced "Apple Intelligence", a collection of AI capabilities not exclusively from Apple.

Simultaneously, Apple Vision Pro's sales commenced in various nations, such as Germany starting from July 12th. Along with the smart glasses, they also received an update to their operating system, visionOS. However, the upgrades are quite minimal.

iPhones will witness a range of design changes with iOS 18. This includes a dark mode tailored to app designs. There are also minor enhancements to iMessage and other user-viewed apps alongside improved security features. At first, only users situated in the US will be intrigued by these features; iPhone users can now conduct financial transactions using Apple Pay by simply placing their phones close together.

The Photos app underwent a complete overhaul, featuring an intuitive interface. It now allows the creation of new collections and easy sharing. Additionally, users can partially customize the app to their preferences.

AirPods Pro have received a few enhancements as well. One can now dismiss or approve Siri suggestions by either shaking or nodding your head. Furthermore, these headphones are equipped with enhanced noise cancellation in noisy environments.

The performance of Apple TV with TV is augmented, enabling users to better comprehend media content, for instance, by highlighting voices.

Among other things, iOS 18 brings an improved dark mode to iPhones.

watchOS for the Apple Watch includes a few improvements, such as more accurately tracking exercises and a new app for analyzing health data.

iPad users were initially introduced to minor design enhancements and app upgrades. The calculator app for iPads was modified, where it is possible to employ an Apple Pencil for writing equations. Also, the Notes app possesses the same capabilities, and for the first time, AI was mentioned here. Smart Script simplifies errors and presents intelligent suggestions for handwritten notes, a feature already available on iPadOS.

macOS was tagged "Sequoia" and now enables the content replication from an iPhone on a Mac, along with Apple TV functionality to control iOS devices from the computer. Notifications no longer interfere with your screen but instead show separately, and when opened, you can interact with the iPhone, even if it is locked. The exchange of content is made more convenient between both devices.

Following the introduction of these minor changes on all devices, Apple's Tim Cook and his team unveiled the "next big step for Apple": Artificial Intelligence, or "Apple Intelligence."

Androids are already aware of some AI features such as finding images in the Photos app or context-oriented information in emails. Apple's Craig Federighi, though, pointed out that Apple values data protection over other competitors and thus strives to keep most tasks on the devices.

iOS 18 is increasingly data-protective even with AI integration. While some processing is required on servers, user data should never be retained. Instead, only models should run on Apple servers with Apple chips. Safeguarding is touted to be transparent when it comes to these server-based tasks.

With iPadOS come design changes and a new calculator app.

Despite being their digital assistant, Siri is merely the beginning of an AI assistant. As time progresses, various capabilities will supplant this initial AI functionality. Furthermore, Apple is partnering with OpenAI to make ChatGPT 4 accessible for free on iPhones, iPads, or Macs.

Though not on-device or Apple servers, users must provide their account details to access advanced capabilities. Rest assured, OpenAI's data usage guidelines will apply in this scenario.

AI is about to transform the way you write with suggestions carved from your style. You can condense or proofread lengthier passages. The possibilities with "Apple Intelligence" are boundless.

The AI, referred to as "Apple Intelligence," provides personalized options for various scenarios, such as job applications or party invitations. It offers customizable versions that cater to different settings or purposes.

In terms of communication, "Apple Intelligence" can assist with organizing emails and messages. The Notes and Phone apps allow users to record audio, transcribe it, and create summaries. This feature contacts relevant individuals, providing summaries once calls have been made.

The recently introduced "Image Playground" lets users create unique graphics or "Genmojis" for various purposes. In the Notes app, the Pencil toolkit can be accessed, similar to Android's approach. The AI is also capable of eliminating unwanted objects from images, uncovering images, and creating stories.

Texts can be rewritten, proofread and summarized.

Apple users must temper their enthusiasm for "Apple Intelligence," as its availability is currently limited. It's expected to launch only in the fall in the US, exclusively in the English language. Additionally, only devices with relevant hardware will be eligible, including the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and selected iPads and Macs with Apple's M1 chip.
