Ballermann singer - Appearance despite sick note for trial: Melanie Müller faces trouble

After the cancellation of Melanie Müller's process due to her illness, there might be trouble regarding a possible appearance of the 36-year-old. The responsible judge at the Amtsgericht Leipzig will certainly investigate the matter, a court spokesperson stated on Tuesday in response to an inquiry. "The appearance despite a sick note does not necessarily have to have legal consequences."

According to a report by TV-sender RTL, the singer is said to have performed at a club on Mallorca on Monday evening – the evening before the cancelled trial date. There is video material available that allegedly shows Müller. Her management and lawyer declined to comment on the matter when contacted by the DPA.

Melanie Müller presents medical certificate

Originally, the process against Müller for the use of symbols of unconstitutional organizations was scheduled to begin on Tuesday. On Monday, the court received a medical certificate. As a result, the responsible chamber determined Müller's inability to stand trial and postponed the main hearing, explained the court spokesperson.

This is the second postponement of the trial. It was originally scheduled to begin on June 18. The trial was already postponed at that time due to Müller's illness. A new main hearing date has not been set yet.

Singer denies Hitler salute accusations

The Leipzig Prosecutor's Office filed charges against Müller in May because she is said to have publicly shown the Hitler salute multiple times. The investigators refer to an incident in the night of September 18, 2022, in Leipzig. On stage, she is said to have shown the Hitler salute towards the audience multiple times. In addition, there is a charge of drug possession. Müller is alleged, according to the indictment, to have kept 0.69 grams of cocaine mixture and an Ecstasy tablet in her Leipzig apartment in the past.

Müller denied the allegations and any affinity towards "Right-wing radicals or nationalist thought patterns." The controversial gesture was a movement to heat up the audience, she emphasized. For the singer, the presumption of innocence applies until a legally binding conviction.

Müller was born in Schönefeld near Oschatz. In 2014, she won the eighth season of the TV series "Ich bin ein Star – Holt mich hier raus!" and appeared in numerous other TV formats afterwards. As a schlager singer, she sings on Mallorca, among other places, in the discotheques Bierkönig and Oberbayern and performs at booked events.

  1. Despite the medical certificate submitted by Melanie Müller, which led to the postponement of her court hearing in Leipzig, there are reports suggesting she performed at a club in Majorca on the evening before the scheduled trial date.
  2. The local court in Leipzig, Amtsgericht Leipzig, is now faced with investigating the allegations of Melanie Müller appearing in public despite being on sick leave, as reported by RTL.
  3. If the investigations confirm Melanie Müller's performance at a club in Majorca during her sick leave, it could potentially lead to legal consequences, contrary to the judge's statement that the appearance itself may not have any legal consequences.
