With the influx of holiday-goers coming back home, the ADAC anticipates jam-packed roads in four German states this weekend, signaling the conclusion of vacation season. Particularly on Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg's highways, there's a high chance of severe traffic, as per the automobile club's notice. The end of the summer break isn't just happening in Berlin, Brandenburg, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, and Schleswig-Holstein, but also in certain parts of the Netherlands and Austria.

At the tail end of summer vacations, road construction projects will also pick up pace, potentially causing more traffic jams on German highways. However, enduring patience may also be necessary in neighboring countries. The most congestion is projected in Austria on the Tauern, West, Inntal, Brenner, Pyhrn, Karawanken highways, as well as the Fernpass route, and in Switzerland on the Gotthard highway, and on the main roads from the Italian, French, and Croatian coasts leading inland.

Vacationers heading back home should also prepare themselves for wait times approaching 45 minutes at German borders due to security checks.

Additionally, ADAC expects the second weekend in September to be just as chaotic on German highways, as the remaining students in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg will also be wrapping up their summer breaks.

Despite the holidays drawing to a close, vacationers might encounter wait times of up to 45 minutes at German borders due to security checks. The upcoming second weekend in September could still see congested roads, as many students in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg conclude their summer breaks.
