- Anticipates a notably bustling weekend, according to ADAC
Attention Motorists: Post-vacation period in certain federal territories sparks significant travel surge. Schools in Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate resume classes next week, resulting in numerous homebound commuters this weekend. Nevertheless, there's a projected decrease in traffic heading south.
According to the traffic association, arterial roads leading to and from the North and Baltic Seas will experience heavy traffic. The most jammed highways apparently include the A1 Lübeck - Dortmund, the A3 Passau - Frankfurt, and the A7 Hannover - Füssen/Reutte. Furthermore, routes in Munich, Berlin, and Hamburg urban areas are also predicted to be heavily congested.
As always, patience is key in the Alpine regions, particularly on the Tauern, Fernpass, Inntal, Brenner, Pyhrn, Karawanken, and Gotthard routes. Travelers should anticipate congestion on roadways heading to Scandinavia, Poland, Italy, and the Netherlands as well.
Avoid the Arlberg in Austria. Construction on the Arlberg tunnel has led to its closure, and indefinite road closure on the Arlberg pass is due to a landslide. For smoother travel, it's best to hit the roads during the week.
Despite the anticipated traffic increases in various regions, commuters heading to or from Hessen might find less congestion due to the return of schools in Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate. However, be aware that arterial roads leading to other destinations, such as the A3 Passau - Frankfurt, may still be heavily trafficked.
