Consequences of war - Another World War II bomb removed in Saalekreis
On a field in the Saalekreis district, a World War II bomb was removed again on a Friday. A spokesperson for the district said at noon, "The bomb was detonated, the residents can return to their homes." The 500 kilogramme bomb was controlled detonated. A control radius had already been set up around the recently discovered munition. The people living within it had to leave their houses and apartments in the morning on Friday. The bomb was then detonated on site. According to the reports, about 300 households were affected, in which about 600 people lived.
Already on a Wednesday, people had to leave their houses. The residents were informed about the discoveries beforehand via handouts.
Sports hall as emergency shelter
According to the authorities, a kindergarten was also closed due to the explosion on Friday. A sports hall was to be opened as an emergency shelter. The recently discovered flying bomb could not be defused, according to the reports, due to the igniter.
