Another shark attack off Western Australia's coast - Tooth in leg

For the second time this month, off the coast of Western Australia, there has been a shark attack. The surfer was not seriously injured - but had a shark tooth in his leg.

At one of the popular stands of Perth in Western Australia, a surfer was attacked by a shark. The man was bitten in the leg at Trigg Beach - only about 15 kilometers from the city center - by the shark, reported the newspaper "The West Australian" quoting the Fisheries Department.

It is said to have been a relatively small shark, but the exact species is unclear. It was already the second shark attack this month on the Australian west coast.

Shark tooth removed

The media reported, quoting the man's family, that doctors had stitched up the wound and removed a shark tooth from his leg. The injuries were not life-threatening. The authorities urged beachgoers to be extremely cautious at the beach.

Only ten days ago, a man was attacked by a shark while spearfishing near Coral Bay, about 1,100 kilometers north of Perth. The victim was also not seriously injured.

According to official statistics, there were about a dozen shark attacks in Down Under last year in which the victims were injured. Four more attacks resulted in fatalities. So far this year, there have been about half a dozen attacks, but no fatalities.
