Another acquittal: Pakistan's former prime minister may run again
Now that former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has been acquitted of the remaining corruption charges, according to his lawyer, the politician's path to the upcoming parliamentary elections is clear.
Sharif had already been acquitted of corruption charges in another case at the end of last month. According to reports, a further appeal trial also ended in his favor on Tuesday. Convicts are not allowed to run for a parliamentary seat in Pakistan.
The politician was sentenced to several years in prison for corruption in 2018. Despite the sentences, he was allowed to leave the country for medical treatment. In October, he returned to Pakistan from England and appealed against the sentences.
Sharif hopes to become prime minister for the fourth time in the parliamentary elections next February. He was unable to complete his three previous terms in office. He was forced to resign in 2017 due to allegations of corruption.

Following his recent acquittal on corruption charges, the ex-premier of Pakistan, Nawaz Sharif, is considered a viable candidate for the upcoming parliamentary elections.
