Local elections - Animal welfare party appeals against district council election

The Mensch Umwelt Tierschutz Party in Brandenburg files objection to the Dahme-Spreewald Kreistag election. Despite timely application for locations for large posters, the commune of Eichwalde (district 1) only issued the corresponding permit on June 3rd, during the week before the election, criticized the party's state chairman and candidate from Zeuthen, Jan Bärenfeldt. Due to this delay, the Animal Welfare Party was significantly disadvantaged in its campaign efforts compared to other parties in this constituency.

Animal Welfare Party complains about late decision by the commune

According to the party, they had submitted the corresponding applications on March 8th and answered all inquiries from the commune of Eichwalde by March 17th. Nevertheless, the permit for the installation of large posters was only granted shortly before the election on June 9th. Four large posters in Eichwalde were therefore only erected on the day before the election.

The Animal Welfare Party asserts that they would have only missed 110 more votes for entry into the Kreistag. Since voters had three votes, only 37 of them would have had to vote for the Animal Welfare Party, argued Bärenfeldt. "Therefore, I am certain that the late-erected large posters cost us the seat in the Kreistag."

Party refers to election successes in other districts

The Animal Welfare Party entered the Kreistag elections in Brandenburg for the first time this year in the districts of Dahme-Spreewald, Prignitz, Oberspreewald-Lausitz, and Oder-Spree, and for the second time in the Landkreis Oberhavel. In the districts of Oberspreewald-Lausitz and Oder-Spree, they each won one seat, and in the Landkreis Oberhavel, they won two seats.

The party is reportedly waiting for the result of the election review, as the Kreistag of Dahme-Spreewald was constituted on Tuesday and the preliminary examination of election complaints was transferred to the district council.

  1. The County Council of Brandenburg, in response to the objection by the Mensch Umwelt Tierschutz Party, will review the municipal election process in Dahme-Spreewald, specifically focusing on the delay in issuing permit for large posters by the commune of Eichwalde.
  2. The Animal Welfare Party, in the midst of the municipal election campaign in Potsdam, expressed their dissatisfaction with the choice of timing by the Eichwalde commune, as it significantly impacted their campaign efforts.
  3. During the municipal election in Dahme-Spreewald Kreistag, the Animal Welfare Party faced an unfair disadvantage due to the late permission granted by the commune of Eichwalde for the installation of large campaign posters.
  4. The delay in permit approval for large posters by the Eichwalde commune, as argued by the Animal Welfare Party, might have influenced the voters' choices in the municipal election, potentially causing them to lose a seat in the Kreistag.
  5. In contrast to the Dahme-Spreewald constituency, the Animal Welfare Party had notable successes in other districts such as Oberspreewald-Lausitz, Oder-Spree, and Landkreis Oberhavel, hinting at potential impact of the delayed permit approval on their campaign.
