Attempt at breaking a record - Allstedt sees the creation of a massive poppy seed cake.
In the southern region of Saxony-Anhalt, a massive poppy cake has been conjured up. Cooked on a custom-built 1.50m x 1.20m metal sheet on Saturday in Allstedt, as per a rep from the Art Foundation of Saxony-Anhalt. On Sunday, this sweet marvel was weighed and, according to the rep, it came in at 128.5 kg including the metal sheet.
This could potentially be a world record, claims the rep. The intention is to present this matter to Guinness World Records in London for proper verification. It's anticipated that around 700 pieces of the cake will be dished out to the throngs of visitors attending the event.
This ambitious pursuit is a collaborative effort between the Art Foundation of Saxony-Anhalt and skilled baker and pastry chef master, Vincent Richter, from the bakery Meye in Allstedt. The motivation behind this? The upcoming commemorative year, "500 years of the Peasants' War and 500th death anniversary of Thomas Müntzer" in 2025. The Art Foundation cites the centuries-old baking craft, which was prevalent in bakeries during Müntzer's time.
