Pursuit journey - Alleged smuggler transports six passengers on the run

A suspected trafficker hit six people with a car in Lower Bavaria during an escape from the Police - four of them seriously. The victims were attendees of the "Donau in Flammen" festival in Vilshofen (Landkreis Passau), according to a police spokesperson.

The 24-year-old driver had reportedly driven towards the festival participants when his car, with over ten foreign nationals inside, drifted off the road with excessive speed while turning left. The passengers included a Georgian, eight foreign nationals, five of whom were children aged 3 to 14 years.

Fled on the Bundesstraße 8 towards Vilshofen

A police patrol attempted to stop the driver on the Bundesstraße 8 between Passau and Vilshofen on Saturday evening. The driver reportedly fled with excessive speed towards Vilshofen and continued driving after the accident without attending to the injured.

In Vilshofen, the man crashed into a dead-end street. He is said to have gotten out of the car and fled on foot, but was later temporarily arrested by officers. Two officers were lightly injured during the arrest. The six injured pedestrians, including three women and a man aged 18 to 21, as well as a 15-year-old and an 11-year-old, were taken to hospitals.

The foreign passengers lacked required documents

The eight foreign passengers of the 24-year-old were reportedly without the necessary documents for Germany. The man is suspected of transporting them under life-threatening circumstances. Additionally, he is to answer for bodily harm and traffic offenses. The suspect was to be presented to an investigating judge later in the day.

At the "Donau in Flammen" festival, there were reportedly several thousand people present. On one side of the Danube, the attendees gathered, while on the other, a fireworks display took place.

  6. Following the collision, the suspect continued to flee towards Vilshofen, adding to the turmoil and Criminality in the area.
  7. As the suspect attempted to escape on foot, officers from the District Passau managed to temporarily apprehend him, resulting in minor injuries for two officers.
  8. The tragic events at the "Donau in Flammen" festival serve as a grim reminder of the dangerous consequences of unlawful activities and disregard for traffic regulations in Bavaria.
