During the "Donau in Flammen" festival in the Bavarian town of Vilshofen, a suspected smuggler injured six people while trying to evade Police. The incident occurred as the driver attempted to turn the car too quickly to the left, causing it to skid to the roadside, according to the Federal Police and Prosecutor's Office in Passau. Four of the injured, aged between 11 and 21, were reportedly severely hurt.

The passengers injured were spectators at the event, according to the Police in Straubing. They were taken to the hospital.

The Federal Police in Passau took over the investigation. They stated that a police patrol had attempted to stop the vehicle in Passau on the Saturday evening. The driver, a 24-year-old, failed to stop and instead sped away towards Vilshofen.

The high-speed chase with the police reportedly covered more than 20 kilometers and involved several dangerous situations. The accident eventually occurred in Vilshofen. The driver then continued on, disregarding the injured.

He was later apprehended in a dead-end street, exited the vehicle, and fled on foot. Police officers managed to capture him and temporarily detained him, with two of them sustaining minor injuries.

In the car, they found eight people, all Turkish nationals, according to the police. There were three adults and five children between the ages of 3 and 14. They did not have the necessary documents for entry into Germany.

According to the current investigation, the 24-year-old, a Georgian national, is under strong suspicion of having brought the eight people into Germany under dangerous circumstances, it was stated. Both bodily harm and traffic violations charges are also under consideration. The man was scheduled to appear before an investigating judge on Sunday. The Police are asking for witness tips.
