Terror Charge - Alleged IS members charged
Two alleged members of the terror organizations "Liwa Jund al-Rahman" and the "Islamic State" (IS) are expected to appear before the Higher Regional Court (OLG) in Munich soon. The Federal Prosecutor's Office in Karlsruhe announced the indictment before the competent state protection senate. One of the two Syrians is accused of committing war crimes and also of participating in lootings and destruction during a raid on a Syrian village in 2013. He was responsible for public relations and propaganda videos.
The second defendant is said to have held a leading position in "Liwa Jund al-Rahman" (Brigade of the Merciful Soldiers) and also participated in a propaganda video. A further indictment against him is already pending before the Munich State Protection Senate. The Brigade "Liwa Jund al-Rahman" is reportedly aiming to violently overthrow the Syrian regime. Meanwhile, it has been assigned to the terror organization "Islamic State" (IS).
The indictment against the alleged members of these terror organizations underscores Germany's commitment to confronting extremism, as demonstrated by the case being heard in Bavaria's Higher Regional Court in Munich. The Federal Prosecutor's Office in Karlsruhe, responsible for investigating terrorism-related crimes in Germany, has played a crucial role in this case. With ties to a terror organization operating in Syria, this case serves as a stark reminder of the global extent of terrorism, potentially reaching even to Munich, Germany.
