Rescue of Last Survivor After Mosel Hotel Collapse
Following the collapse of a hotel in Kröv on the Mosel, the last surviving person has been rescued from the rubble. After more than 24 hours, the woman was carried out to applause late in the evening. A spokesperson for the fire department confirmed this.
Earlier, emergency services had used heavy equipment from a specialist firm to reach the woman, according to police reports. They had maintained "voice contact" with her and were able to provide her with fluids.
In the accident, where one floor of the building collapsed, two people lost their lives. One of the two victims was also recovered on Wednesday. It was a woman, as a police spokesperson stated. Apart from the woman, born in 1961 according to the incident command, a man also lost his life. His body is still in the rubble, and it was unlikely that his recovery would happen that evening, it was reported.
Collapse on Tuesday Evening
Around 11 pm on Tuesday evening, parts of the hotel collapsed. According to the police, residents called the emergency number. At the time of the collapse, 14 people were in the hotel. Five were rescued relatively quickly as they were in "unaffected parts of the building," explained Jörg Teusch, the fire and disaster protection inspector of the Bernkastel-Wittlich district. Nine others were initially trapped under the rubble - the survivors were rescued throughout the day.
The police played a crucial role in coordinating the emergency response following the hotel collapse, as reported by the specialist firm that provided the heavy equipment. After being in contact with the trapped woman for over 24 hours, the police were relieved to see her rescue.
