Air transport halted in Shanghai due to typhoon's impact
Due to the incoming typhoon named "Bebinca," all flights at Shanghai's airports across China will cease on Sunday, starting at 20:00 local time (14:00 CEST), as reported by state broadcaster CCTV. Already, the number of flights at Pudong and Hongqiao airports had been decreased resulting from the typhoon.
As per the Ministry of Civil Affairs in Beijing, the upcoming typhoon is likely to hit the heavily populated east coast of China with powerful gusts and torrential rain throughout Sunday night and Monday.
This typhoon coincides with a national holiday in China, leading to an anticipated 74 million travels as predicted by the nation's railway operators, according to Xinhua's state news agency on Saturday. A lowest-level flood warning was issued for Shanghai as well as the provinces of Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Anhui on Saturday.
On Sunday, the weather agency issued a typhoon warning for multiple districts in Shanghai and the neighboring provinces at the second-highest level of four. The populace was advised to take necessary precautions, and boats were urged to make their way back to ports. Passenger ships, likewise, were encouraged to halt operations in Shanghai on Sunday.
Typhoon "Bebinca" had already passed over the Japanese island of Amami and the Philippines earlier, with wind speeds reaching up to 198 kilometers per hour. Consequently, six individuals lost their lives on the Philippines when trees were uprooted, as announced by officials on Sunday.
