Last Generation - Air traffic in Cologne/Bonn resumed
The air traffic at Cologne/Bonn Airport has been released again after the end of an action by Climate Activists. Previously, all five activists who had glued themselves to one of the runways were removed from there, said a police spokeswoman.
Air traffic had been halted since around 5.45 am. A spokesperson for the airport stated that they would only receive an overview in the morning as to how many flights had been delayed or cancelled due to the action.
The group Last Generation shared that several activists had torn through a fence and glued themselves to the asphalt near the start- and landing strips. Via the network X, the group announced that the action was part of an international protest campaign that demands an exit from fossil fuel energy sources by 2030. The protest was supposed to take place simultaneously at airports in over ten countries worldwide, it was stated.
The demonstration by the group Last Generation, demanding an end to fossil fuel energy sources by 2030, disrupted air traffic at Cologne/Bonn Airport in Germany. This incident occurred in the North Rhine-Westphalia region, causing a significant delay to the last generation of flights that were scheduled to depart or arrive at the airport. After the action ended, normal air traffic resumed at Cologne/Bonn Airport, which is located in both Cologne and Bonn. Despite the disruption, the exact number of affected flights is yet to be determined by the airport authorities.
