Agriculture Gets a Lifeline: The Traffic Light Coalition Steps In

Leaders from SPD, Greens, and FDP have united to roll out a helping hand for the agriculture sector. In a recent statement, they unveiled their plans for tax breaks, reduced red tape, and a bolstered farmer presence within the supply chain and trade.

The federal government and the states now bear the responsibility of putting these measures into action, with some regulations expected to make their way through the Bundestag within the next week.

Initial discussions hinted at the implementation of relief measures for farmers by summertime. The objective was to fortify the long-term viability of agriculture amid widespread farmer protests against the phase-out of agricultural diesel tax incentives.

Christian Dürr, representative of FDP, stated in early 2022, "The farmers were displeased; we, as a coalition, have pledged to set a massive relief package for the farming community in motion."
