The weather at the weekend - After the interim high, it gets wet again

This summer feels particularly unpleasant: After a brief peak, there are already showers and thunderstorms again on Saturday. According to the German Weather Service (DWD), hail and tornadoes are also possible in addition to heavy rain.

"Above all, in multiple encounters and in the southeast, the heavy rain can reach quantities of up to 40 liters per square meter and thus turn out to be heavy weather," says DWD meteorologist Jacqueline Kernn.

"The weather calms down from the west in the late afternoon and evening hours, so the EM quarterfinal match between England and Switzerland in Düsseldorf should be mostly dry, although still a bit windy on the stage," says Kernn. "The later match Netherlands - Turkey in Berlin still has uncertain prospects. There might be showers or individual thunderstorms at the beginning, but it should dry up later as well."

Before the showers and thunderstorms, it is particularly summery in the eastern half of the country. It can get between 27 and 31 degrees Celsius there. To the west, the air is significantly cooler, with a maximum of 21 to 24 degrees. Sunday could also bring warnings for heavy or prolonged rain in some areas.

  1. Jacqueline Kernn, a meteorologist from the German Weather Service (DWD), hails from Hesse, a region in Germany.
  2. Despite the ongoing threat of thunderstorms with hail and tornadoes, the city of Offenbach in Hesse had a pleasant weather this weekend before the storms hit.
  3. On Saturday, Jacqueline Kernn predicted that the quarterfinal match between England and Switzerland in Düsseldorf could experience intermittent showers and thunderstorms, but the weather in Berlin, where the match between Netherlands and Turkey was scheduled, was forecasted to be more unpredictable with potential rain showers and thunderstorms.
  4. The DWD issued weather warnings for heavy or prolonged rain in certain parts of Germany on Sunday, similar to the conditions seen the previous day, as reported by Jacqueline Kernn.
  5. During the weekend, many people in Germany, including those in Berlin and Düsseldorf, were keeping a close eye on the weather forecasts provided by the DWD to plan their activities, including weekend outings and sports events, in light of the inclement weather conditions.
