Severe thunderstorms with hail and heavy gusts have passed through parts of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. In the Landkreis Vorpommern-Greifswald, the fire department was called out 60 times due to the storm - there were no major accidents, injuries, or fires, according to a spokesperson for the district to the dpa. The firefighters reportedly pumped out cellars that were flooded and cleared up overturned trees from the roads.

In the Landkreis Mecklenburgische Seenplatte, a roof structure was on fire, possibly due to a lightning strike into the house, according to a spokesperson for the district to the dpa. No one was injured in the fire. Additionally, around four trees fell and blocked roads for a time. In Greifswald, police reported that a man was rescued from a car filled with water - he remained unharmed.

Storm: strong gusts up to 90 kilometers per hour

The German Weather Service (DWD) had warned, among other things, for the districts of Mecklenburgische Seenplatte, Vorpommern-Greifswald, and Vorpommern-Rügen, of rainfall amounts up to 40 liters per square meter and wind speeds up to 90 kilometers per hour.

The storm had moved from the southern part of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern towards the northeast in the afternoon, according to a DWD spokesperson to the dpa. The meteorologists had warned of danger from lightning strikes, uprooted trees, high-voltage power lines, and flooded streets and cellars, as well as aquaplaning.

6. The aftermath of the storm saw the Fire department working diligently to combat smaller fires, such as the one in the Landkreis Mecklenburgische Seenplatte possibly caused by a lightning strike, and clear debris from streets and cellars left by the storm.
